Could be this is a children’s song, kinda sings like it, although it’s been true of me as long as I can remember. The Self that feels brand new or ‘known’ in the presence of a friend, a boy or girlfriend, a co-worker, a band mate, a brother, a sister, a nephew, a new face in a bar. You always know it when it’s there - that wonderfully altered person you become. You certainly know when it’s not. It’s chemical or spiritual or something else entirely, but it’s my favorite self, even as it shifts from one encounter to another.
