Inspired by phone recordings of songs by a friend. Songs that were as strong as they were simple. Also, as River Phoenix had a band with his sister (I met him at his show at Passims - long, embarrassing story) I stuck him into these lyrics as same friend was late night captured by the photo of him (taken by Gus Van Zandt) hanging in my room. It's also for myself who, in the end, has no clue exactly where any of my songs really come from. Or as Nick Lowe put it: 'There's a song walking down the street every day and if you don't reach out and shake it's hand, someone else will.'
