Sometimes, tragically, friends/family of ours who are victims of The Paralyzing Dark, seem unreachable. Or worse, we fail to notice or comprehend their urgency in the face of a ‘final decision’. This was brought home to me by Senator Jamie Raskin’s interview with Terry Gross about his son Tommy’s NYE suicide in 2021. Hindsight rarely gives answers. There are too many ‘if only’s’ that hit us hard in the heart. Listening to Dave Grohl’s interview (again on Fresh Air) about writing his first song while he was on a couch in the apartment he lived in with Kurt Cobain. He was trying to keep quiet as he suspected Kurt was in the next room writing himself. Grohl played that song for Terry (the first time he’s played it in 20 years). It was simple. Stark. Just 2, 3 chords. I took his lead on what I wrote today.
