At a rehearsal/drummer audition a couple of days ago, Ricky McLean started this jam. (I can’t ‘jam’ t save my life. I just stare at the piano and wait for it all to end.) But Ricky was burning on this riff which was so hot and hit memorable, that I recorded it on my phone, pasted it up on GarageBand, Frankenstein chopped it up a bit - which weirded out the rhythm in spots (which of course I like), and wrote this song. A thinly disguised musical ‘sketch portrait’ of Mr. McLean - THE Through Line Heart-On-His-Sleeve Dude in #thenickelanddimeband. As much as anyone Ricky ‘gets’ my songs, which means the world to me. (Stephen Moore on kit, Matt Bailin chiming in at the coda.)
