YOU TAKE CHANCES I WON'T TAKE

from DEMOS by Rick Berlin

about

Had a song w this lyric: ‘A life of caution is no life at all’, which, when I think about it, I fail to follow. Caution signs all over my timid highway. On the other hand, sometimes, out of sheer whythefucknot? I put my foot in it. So this song, tho it seems more like an outtake from a McCartney children’s song written with a crayon, is about my respect, my looking up to, those who just fucking go for it, caution be damned. The drawing, by Ian Adams, for my song, ‘I Like Straight Guys’ (besides saying it all in one pen & ink) tells the same story.

lyrics

YOU TAKE CHANCES I WON’T TAKE

you bring tears
you bring laughter
you take chances
i wont take
without you

how many times
did ya fool me
how many nights
did ya shoot the moon
how many blanks
did you, did ya fire
n how many games
you have ya played
it’s all your mistakes
that keep you
all your mistakes
that make you brave

you bring tears
you bring laughter
you take chances
i wont take
without you

how many times
have you fallen down
how many nights
have ya packed it in
how many hearts
have you, have you broken
how many times has your
heart been opened
n how many friends
have you, have ya saved
it’s all your mistakes
that keep you
all your mistakes
that make you brave

you bring tears
you bring laughter
you take chances
i wont take
without you

im a scard y cat
when it’s time t cross the line
yr my hero
you take chances
flip a coin
on one thin dime

you bring tears
you bring laughter
you take chances
i wont take
without you
