I have a sepia photo of my parents, before we were born and when they were truly in love at The Stork Club. Back then, smoke floating in bars was romantic. A light lighting up a face, eyes hoping for a hit of the heart. The Great Generation. New York. Paris. My fictionalized sense of the late 30's and early 40's deletes the darkness I'm sure they all felt with the war taking lives. It's a black n white movie for me, those days. Brought home in the Hollywood of the time. Before alcoholism was fully identified as ruining families and cigarettes melting lungs with cancer.
