The Knife

Wr gettin outa here
we can’t take it
been here 1 too many yrs
Wr gettin outa here
We can’t shake it
this culture of fear

big brother is watching
w/ newspaper eyes
the cell is a sleeper
on the knife

Wr gettin outa here
we can’t take it
been here 1 too many yrs
Wr gettin outa here
We can’t shake it
this culture of fear

circle the wagons
w/ crime on the rise
number one w/ a bullet
kid, get outa here
‘fore they ask ya t fall
on the knife

old men run th show again
sending young kid off t war
blood all over their wrinkled hands
they tell ya what yr fighting for
they tell ya what yr fighting for

Wr gettin outa here
we can’t take it
been here 1 too many yrs
Wr gettin outa here
We can’t shake it
this culture of fear

THE SHELLEY WINTERS PROJECT went into WOOLLY MAMMOTH SOUND (The weeping behemoth has folded her tent. The catacomb rehearsal/label/studio so many have slogged away in for years is being torn to bits to make room for - you guessed it - condERminiums.) Anyhow SWP slid in there one long night and recorded 17 songs live. (Sir David Minehan crawled all over the place - ass in air - to get things right.) Overdubbed vocals and one or two bits of guitar, violin. Mixed when we could. In many ways it's SHELLEY's truest record. No other instruments or players took part save those last remaining: Meredith Cooper - violin. Jeff Muzerolle - drums. Noah Scanlan - bass. David Berndt - guitar. Berlin - Berlin. Realize it's been said before, but as far as this old lady's concerned, SHELLEY is her LAST BAND EVER. Will miss Mr. Minehan with all my heart. Less some big idea with big bucks wades into my life.

A giant on the Boston music scene. His colorful songwriting + strong stage presence have influenced countless other artists since the early 1970s. He continues to make music w/ intelligence + integrity, building an international reputation around his knotty, singular piano playing, straight-from-the-heart singing and a style of character-based songwriting that's drawn comparisons to Waits + Cohen ... more
